Vigilantes Apprehend Two Suspected Thieves in Yakurr, Cross River State

On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, vigilante groups in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State successfully apprehended two individuals suspected of theft in the Ijiman and Okurubong communities. The arrests, made in the early hours of the day, reflect the vigilance and proactive efforts of local security personnel in combating crime within the region.

The suspects, identified as Benjamin James Akpama from Nko and Eyong Ubi Okoi from Idomi, were caught in separate incidents. Akpama was allegedly found stealing electric wires, a critical infrastructure component, while Okoi was apprehended for pilfering fish from a local pond. These acts of theft, targeting both community resources and private property, prompted swift intervention by the Ijiman Okurubong vigilante group.

According to a spokesperson for the vigilante group, both suspects will be handed over to the Ugep Police Station for a thorough investigation and possible prosecution.
