A-G Orders EOCO to Probe Top NDC Executives over Illegal Mining Allegations
These two staunch NDC party executives have been accused of engaging in illegal mining activities

The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice has directed the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to launch a full-scale investigation into two senior executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over alleged involvement in illegal mining activities.
Those under scrutiny are Joseph Yamin, the NDC’s National Organiser, and Yakubu Abanga, Vice Chairman of the party. The directive comes amid growing public concern over political interference in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as ‘galamsey’.
According to a statement from the Office of the Attorney-General, EOCO is to conduct a “comprehensive investigation” into the activities of the two party officials to determine the veracity of the claims and take appropriate legal action if necessary.
The Attorney-General stressed that the rule of law must be upheld regardless of political affiliation, and assured the public that any individuals found culpable will face prosecution in accordance with the law.
The allegations come at a time when the government is under pressure to demonstrate its commitment to combating environmental degradation caused by illegal mining, which continues to threaten the country’s forests and water bodies.
Neither Mr Yamin nor Mr Abanga has publicly responded to the accusations at the time of filing this report. The NDC leadership has also yet to issue an official statement on the development.
EOCO is expected to begin preliminary investigations immediately. The outcome of the probe will be closely watched as a test of Ghana’s resolve to address illegal mining and hold politically exposed persons accountable.
