Johnson Asiedu Nketiah was born on 24 December 1956 in Seikwa, Bono Region, Ghana. He came from humble beginnings as the fifth of nine children. Of royal birth—his father belonging to the Oyoko clan and his mother from the Akwamu family—he initiated schooling at Seikwa Presbyterian Primary School.

He was trained as a teacher at St. Joseph's College of Education (1974–1978) and thereafter proceeded to obtain a BSc in Banking & Finance from the University of Ghana Business School in 1983. In 2019, he furthered his studies with an MSc in Defence & International Politics at the Ghana Armed Forces Command College.

Career Before & Beyond Politics

Before venturing into politics, Asiedu Nketiah was employed at GIHOC Distilleries and later managed the operations at Nkoraman and Sehwi Asawinso Rural Banks. He was employed as a stockbroker and investment banker by the National Trust Holding Company (NTHC), a testament to a diverse professional background in finance.

Political Ascension: Grassroots to the National Level

Nketiah's political career began at the grassroots level—entry to the Wenchi District Assembly in 1988 and service to the drafting of the 1992 Constitution as a consultative assembly member. MP for Wenchi West (1993–2005), he garnered portfolios on valuable committees: Finance, Public Accounts, Mines & Energy, and Food & Agriculture. As a Deputy Minister of Agriculture (1997–2001) under President Rawlings.

Married to Vida Adomah Nketiah, he is a Christian and has five children: Amma, Kwaku, Yaa, Afia, and Kwame. His son, Charles Asiedu, also joins politics to follow in his footsteps to win the Tano South parliamentary seat.
