Bawumia Urges State Funeral for Daddy Lumba During Emotional Visit
Bawumia Commiserates with Lumba’s Family, Calls for National Honours

Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has paid a visit to the family of the late Highlife music legend, Daddy Lumba, to express his condolences.
The visit, which took place at the musician’s East Legon residence, brought together Members of Parliament, party officials and close associates who joined Dr Bawumia in offering their sympathies.
In a social media post following the visit, Dr Bawumia wrote:
"Together with some officials of the NPP, MPs and friends, I visited the residence of the late music legend, Daddy Lumba, to commiserate with his family and also sign the book of condolence.
Lumba's contributions to the nation through his deep and timeless songs are immense, and in recognition of his great service to the nation, I appealed for the state to honour him with a state funeral.
May his soul rest in peace."
The call for a state funeral has added momentum to growing public support for national honours in memory of Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, whose music shaped generations and bridged cultural divides.
Fans and cultural commentators have described the late singer as a national treasure, with a legacy worthy of official recognition. Many believe a state funeral would be a fitting tribute to a man whose songs not only entertained but also chronicled the social and emotional life of Ghana for over three decades.
Daddy Lumba passed away recently, triggering an outpouring of grief across the country. Tributes have flooded in from across the political divide, entertainment industry, and international fans who admired his craft and charisma.
The family has already opened a book of condolence at his residence and radio station, DLFM, with a national candlelight vigil held in his honour at Black Star Square.
