The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed the disappearance of a military helicopter en route from Accra to Obuasi in a statement issued on Wednesday, 6 August 2025.
According to a press release signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the GAF, the Z9 helicopter took off at 09:12 hours from Accra but has since gone off the radar. Efforts are currently underway to re-establish contact with the aircraft.
The helicopter, which was carrying three crew members and five passengers, was bound for Obuasi when communication was lost. The Armed Forces have not disclosed the identities of those onboard, and there has been no confirmation of the helicopter’s current location.
“All efforts are being made to establish contact,” the statement read, assuring the public that further details will be communicated in due course.
The situation has sparked concern nationwide, particularly amid widespread speculation that high-profile government officials may be among those onboard. However, the GAF has not confirmed any such details.
This development comes amid rising scrutiny of safety protocols for military aircraft, especially those transporting senior personnel. While it remains unclear whether the helicopter has crashed or made an emergency landing, rescue and search operations are expected to be deployed immediately.
