CRIMINALISE FUEL SIPHONING AT ACCIDENT SCENES -- THE OVERLORD OF YOOWA IN GHANA URGES GOVERNMENT
The overlord of Yoowa in Ghana, Saawa Yaalo Kwadaa I is urging the Government strictly enforce or immediately pass laws to criminalise the act of rushing to accident scenes to siphon fuel or loot goods from wreckage sites.
His call follows a devastated fuel tanker explosion on the Nsawam - Accra Highway on February 14, 2026, which claimed four precious live.
He stressed that, such dangerous actions obstruct rescue efforts, increase fatalities and must attract arrest and prosecution to serve a deterrent.
His Royal Highness Saawa Yaalo Kwadaa I then extend heartfelt condolences to the bereave families who have lost their love ones in the painful tragedy.
He also stated that, Ghana has endured similar disaster over the years, the gas explosion at Kwahu Fodoah, the Accra Trade Fair gas explosion, the Haatso Atomic Junction Gas explosion, the Circle Filling Station explosion and the devastating mining explosives disaster at Apiate near Bogoso which wiped out an entire community. We have also recorded several fuel tanker explosion across the country, yet this painful events continue to repeat themselves.
His Royal Highness is therefore calling on government to treat this pattern reoccurring disasters with urgency and seriousness."The nation cannot continue to mourn under the same circumstances without decisive structural action".
