Minister of education, Haruna Iddrisu has given a directive to the National Teaching Council (NTC) to offer retakes to candidates from the previous cohort before the August 30 deadline.

A total of 37,000 teacher trainees across Ghana are participating in this year's Teacher Licensure Examination. Of these, 32,000 are sitting for the exam for the first time, while 5,000 are retaking it after not passing previously. The initiative is part of a national effort to ensure high standards in teacher qualification.

During a visit to the Accra High School examination centre, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu encouraged candidates to pursue excellence. He assured first-time examinees that those who do not pass will have another opportunity. He also reiterated his directive to the National Teaching Council (NTC) to offer retakes to candidates from the previous cohort before the August 30 deadline.

The Minister emphasized the government’s broader educational reforms, which aim to embed the licensure exam into the final assessment for graduating teacher trainees from Colleges of Education. This move is intended to streamline certification and raise teaching standards nationwide.

Later in the day, the Minister visited the Father Campbell Foundation in Weija, part of the Ghana Education Outcomes Project (GEOP). There, he met with street-connected children enrolled in fast-track learning and vocational training. He praised Father Campbell's humanitarian efforts and assured continued government support, highlighting GEOP’s vital role in giving out-of-school youth a second chance at education and self reliance.
