Fifi Kwetey warns NDC lawyers against ‘deals’ to shield corrupt officials
NDC Lawyers Told to Lead Reset Agenda with Integrity. They should desist from case tampering - General Secretary at NDC Lawyers Association confab

The General Secretary of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has called on the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice to remain resolute in prosecuting individuals suspected of corruption, warning that attempts to subvert the process will not be tolerated.
Speaking at the fifth annual NDC Lawyers Conference in Kumasi on Saturday, 6 September 2025, Mr Kwetey stressed the need for meticulous prosecutions to secure favourable convictions that would serve as a deterrent to others.
“Continue to be firm with your team in the prosecution of individuals before the courts for alleged corruption-related offences to get a favourable conviction to serve as a deterrent to others,” he urged.
He cautioned that prosecutions must not be rushed to satisfy political timelines, adding: “We have to make sure that prosecution is done rightfully by not allowing anybody to subvert the legal process.”
The three-day event, themed “Government Reset Agenda: The Role of the NDC Lawyer”, gathered party legal minds to deliberate on governance and accountability.
Mr Kwetey also warned against backdoor negotiations to shield individuals from facing justice. “We at the party level are picking up signals that some people among us are trying to cut deals with people who are supposed to be prosecuted. Some are becoming conduits through whom pressure is being brought to bear on people who are supposed to do what is right,” he said.
He hinted that if such practices persist, names could be exposed. “Some already know themselves, and we are hearing their names as well, so they should think again,” he warned.
Highlighting the NDC’s sweeping victory in the 2024 election, he said the outcome reflected the electorate’s demand for integrity and accountability, not for compromises.
National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah commended the lawyers for their pivotal role in securing the party’s victory and hailed the establishment of the NDC Lawyers Association and Professionals Forum for dispelling perceptions that the NDC lacked intellectual depth.
He urged the lawyers to monitor state institutions and offer constructive criticism, noting that such vigilance would help strengthen governance.
Chief of Staff Julius Debrah also underscored the importance of the NDC’s reset agenda, describing it as a deliberate effort to restore constitutionalism, fairness and public trust in state institutions. He charged NDC lawyers to be the “conscience and architects” of the process, designing systems rooted in transparency and accountability.
