The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo Sector Command, has confirmed the deaths of five people in a devastating accident involving seven vehicles along the Ibadan-Lagos expressway, near Soka, on Tuesday.
Victims Include Child and Women
According to Mayowa Odewo, FRSC spokesperson, the deceased include a young boy, one man, and three women. He stated that one of the bodies was released to a relative with police clearance, while the remaining four were deposited at the Adeoyo State Hospital mortuary.
Vehicles Involved and Extent of Damage
Odewo reported that the collision left three large trucks, two private cars, and two Nissan Micra taxis severely damaged. The pile-up led to massive delays along the busy expressway as emergency responders worked to clear the scene.
Eyewitness Account Reveals Chain Reaction
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, explained that the crash began when a truck attempted to reverse out of an abandoned filling station. It struck another moving truck behind it, sparking a domino effect that impacted several other vehicles, including the two taxis.
FRSC Urges Caution on Highways
The FRSC reiterated its call for drivers to exercise caution and avoid illegal maneuvers, particularly on expressways. The agency stressed the need for truck operators to adhere to safety protocols, especially during turns or reversals.
