The ministry of Education adds 25 private SHS's to Ghana's Free SHS Policy.

In a groundbreaking policy shift, the Ministry of Education has added 25 private Senior High Schools (SHSs) to Ghana’s Free SHS programme under the 2025 Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS). This initiative marks the first time private institutions are participating in the scheme, aimed at easing congestion in public SHSs and providing broader access to quality secondary education.
To accommodate this change, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has extended the school selection deadline to Wednesday, June 25, 2025. A supplementary register has been issued to guide parents, students, and educators through the updated list of schools and programme offerings. All 25 schools are co-educational day institutions and fall under Category E in the CSSPS.

Speaking on the development, Mr. Prince Agyemang-Duah, Director of the Schools and Instruction Division at GES, noted that the policy is designed to promote equity and sustainability in the education sector. “We are leveraging private sector capacity to complement public education infrastructure,” he said.
This strategic inclusion is expected to reduce placement bottlenecks, especially in high-demand areas, and serve as a blueprint for future public-private educational partnerships. The success of this rollout could determine how Ghana balances quality and accessibility in the years ahead.
