Former President Akufo-Addo hails the late musician as a “pantheon among musical greats” and recalls his deep connection with the people and politics of Ghana.

Ghana has been plunged into mourning following the passing of celebrated highlife icon, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, affectionately known as Daddy Lumba. The revered musician, whose soulful voice and timeless lyrics defined an era, was confirmed dead in a development that has left fans, colleagues, and national leaders heartbroken.
In a profound tribute shared on social media, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo expressed profound sorrow over the death of the music maestro, describing him as “a pantheon among musical greats of all-time.”
"Daddy Lumba was more than just a musician," the former President wrote. "He was a cultural treasure whose artistry bonded him deeply with Ghanaians across generations. His hit-making songs will remain lasting contributions to my presidential journey and will forever be etched in the annals of political campaigns of the New Patriotic Party.”
Akufo-Addo, who has long shared a warm relationship with the highlife legend, recalled the role Lumba's music played in rallying supporters and energising political movements. His melodies, often brimming with wisdom, humour, and patriotism, became the heartbeat of many campaign trails and community gatherings.
Beyond politics, Daddy Lumba’s music chronicled the hopes, struggles, and triumphs of ordinary Ghanaians. With a career spanning over three decades and numerous hit songs, he carved a niche in Ghana’s cultural and musical heritage that is unmatched.
"He was a dear friend," Akufo-Addo added. “May he peacefully rest in the Bosom of the Almighty until the Last Day of the Resurrection, when we shall all meet again.”
As tributes pour in from across the nation and beyond, many remember Daddy Lumba not only for his unique voice and lyrics but for the authenticity and emotion he brought to every stage and studio session.
His death marks the end of an era, but his legacy — immortalised in songs that continue to inspire and unite — will forever live on.
Daddy Lumba is gone, but his voice will echo in the hearts of Ghanaians for generations.
