Professor of finance and lecturer at the University of Ghana business school, Prof. Godfred Bokpin has stated that, gold from Ghana would soon be boycotted in the International market due to illegal mining.

Professor of finance and lecturer at the University of Ghana business school, Prof. Godfred Bokpin has suggested that, gold from Ghana would soon be boycotted in the International market if illegal mining (Galamsey) is not brought under control.

Speaking on JoyNews weekly news analysis program, news file, Prof. Godfred Bokpin stated that, the continuous environmental destruction caused by illegal mining activities in the Country is alarming and need to stop. 

Prof. Bokpin is of the view that, gold from Ghana can be described as blood gold due to the destruction of water bodies, farm lands which is an existential threat of illegal mining activities.

He called on President John Dramani Mahama to take actions to end illegal mining in the Country as it the biggest threat to the economic survival of Ghana.

He further stated that, if anything will make him to leave Ghana, it will be illegal mining.
