Kofi Akpaloo picked up in EOCO Asset Recovery probe
EOCO Picks Up LPG Leader Kofi Akpaloo Over $1.9m Contract Probe
The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has picked up Kofi Akpaloo, founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), to assist in an ongoing investigation related to a nearly $2 million contract.
Sources within EOCO confirmed that Akpaloo was taken in by officers from the Special Asset Recovery Unit (SARU) on Wednesday, 3 September 2025. The investigation centres around a contract valued at $1,919,750.82, allegedly awarded to Akpaloo and his wife in 2018.
Though details of the contract remain sketchy, it is believed that the Asset Recovery Unit is probing potential financial irregularities, including possible misappropriation of funds or conflict of interest.
A senior EOCO official, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated: “Mr Akpaloo has been invited to assist in investigations regarding a contract issued in 2018. He is not under arrest, but we are seeking clarity on the financial transactions involved.”
Efforts to reach Akpaloo’s legal team for comment were unsuccessful. However, a spokesperson for the LPG described the development as “politically motivated” and claimed the party leader would be vindicated.
Akpaloo, who contested the 2020 and 2024 presidential elections, is one of the more vocal figures in Ghana’s political landscape, known for his populist rhetoric and promises of radical economic reform.
EOCO has not yet issued a formal statement on the matter, but sources say the investigation is at an advanced stage.
This is a developing story.
