President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday joined mourners at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi for the final funeral rites and burial service of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

The Asantehemaa, who was the elder sister of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was laid to rest in a ceremony marked by tradition, solemnity, and a show of national solidarity.

Mr Mahama, who led a government delegation, took to his official social media platforms to share: “I led a government delegation to the burial service for the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Thursday.”

The ceremony drew some of Ghana’s most prominent political figures, including former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and other dignitaries and sympathisers who gathered to commiserate with the Asantehene.

The late Nana Konadu Yiadom III was remembered not only as the matriarch of the Ashanti Kingdom but also as a revered figure who played a central role in preserving the cultural heritage of Asanteman. Her passing is regarded as a profound loss to the royal family and the nation at large.

The presence of leaders across the political divide at the Manhyia Palace underscored the unifying respect held for the Asantehemaa and the importance of Ashanti tradition in Ghana’s national life.
