Mahama Dissolves National Cathedral Board Over Damning Audit Revelations
Secretariat Shut Down Amid Findings Questioning Use of Public Funds

President John Dramani Mahama has taken decisive action in the wake of troubling revelations surrounding the National Cathedral of Ghana project. The President has ordered the immediate dissolution of the Board of Trustees and the shutdown of the Secretariat, citing “damning audit findings” that have rocked the credibility of the project.
At a press briefing held on Friday, Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu announced that the Secretariat, which operated from the Jubilee House, was formally shut down on May 1, 2025.
“The above audit findings rock the very foundation of the project and the work of the Secretariat, and raise serious questions about the use of public funds,” Kwakye Ofosu declared.
He further revealed that the National Cathedral, which was registered as a company limited by guarantee, will face full legal scrutiny. The Attorney General has been directed to initiate proceedings to ensure the complete dissolution of the entity behind the controversial project.
“In view of that, the Attorney General has been directed to take legal steps… and we expect that to be done in the coming days,” Kwakye Ofosu added.
The National Cathedral project has long been the subject of public debate, particularly regarding issues of transparency, governance, and the use of state funds. With the new administration’s latest move, the future of the now-defunct initiative appears sealed under a cloud of legal and ethical inquiry.
