Mahama Confirms Nursing Trainee Allowance to Be Paid Retroactively from January 2025
President Mahama announces retroactive payment of nursing trainee allowances starting January 2025, assuring students during a thank-you tour in Bono East Region.

Starting retroactive effect from January 2025, the government is set to pay nursing trainee allowance. Despite a strong push to not pay trainee allowances during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) campaign, the government reversed course and presented its first fiscal policy paper in March 2025.
President John Dramani Mahama said the government is still dedicated to its promises at a thank-you tour in the Bono East Region on May 29.
The president gave them hope even as students greeted him at the Kintampo Nursing Training College with a reminder of allowances.

“Let me assure you that the minister has made adequate provision in the budget for the payment of allowances. allowances. And the allowances will be paid from January, and so you’ll get the arrears. When we pay the allowances, you’ll receive the arrears. But what has delayed it, what has delayed it, is that the minister is putting in a system so that you’ll be paid through the Controller and Accountant-General,” he announced.
He said, So that every month when workers receive their salaries, trainees will also receive their allowances. So, when that is done, you’ll receive your allowances every month, and they will pay you the arrears from January until the time you started receiving the allowances.”
The President expressed thanks for the gains and the value of the cedi, so inspiring more as the campaign is under way.
