President John Dramani Mahama has announced a landmark investment deal aimed at positioning Ghana as an AI-powered agricultural hub, following engagements at the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan.

Taking to social media, President Mahama revealed that he met with Doga Makiura, CEO and founder of Degas Limited, who confirmed a $100 million investment over the next four years to accelerate Ghana’s agricultural transformation.

According to the President, Degas has already financed more than 86,000 smallholder farmers across 122,000 acres, with interventions that have doubled farmer incomes and achieved a 95% repayment rate. The new investment, he noted, will scale up these gains by deploying AI-driven satellite monitoring and precision agriculture tools.

“This initiative will strengthen value chains from inputs to markets, improve food security, and create more jobs for our youth,” Mahama stated.

He described the development as a “strong vote of confidence” in Ghana’s vision for integrated, technology-enabled agriculture, adding that his government is committed to delivering the results.

The deal represents one of the most significant private sector pledges announced at TICAD9, underlining Ghana’s growing appeal as a destination for innovation-led agribusiness partnerships.
