Godwin Asediba clinches Komla Dumor Award, beating 120 applicants
Tv3 Broadcast Journalist, Godwin Asediba

Ghanaian investigative journalist and news anchor, Godwin Asediba of Media General, has been named the winner of the 2025 BBC News Komla Dumor Award.

After more than three attempts, Asediba described the achievement as “beyond expectation,” expressing gratitude to everyone who had entrusted him with their stories over the years.

Currently serving as an investigative journalist and anchor with TV3 and 3FM in Accra, Asediba impressed the judging panel with his unwavering commitment to journalism and powerful storytelling. He emerged as the winner after beating over 120 applicants from across Africa.

The award, now in its tenth year, was created in memory of Komla Dumor, the Ghanaian-born BBC presenter who died suddenly in 2014 at the age of 41. It recognises outstanding journalists who demonstrate strong talent, integrity, and a passion for telling African stories with depth and authenticity.

As part of the prize, Asediba will spend three months at the BBC in London, where he will receive training, mentorship, and the opportunity to report on a story of his choice.

He becomes the second Ghanaian to win the award, following in the footsteps of Komla Dumor himself, and joins a distinguished list of past winners from Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, and Zambia.
