An Emblem Of The National Democratic Congress

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) today, June 10, 2025, celebrates its 33rd anniversary, marking over three decades of political leadership, democratic resilience, and service to the people of Ghana. The celebration is taking place nationwide under the theme:
“33 Years of Defending Democracy, Building Ghana, and Putting People First.”

Founded on June 10, 1992, by the late President Jerry John Rawlings, the NDC played a foundational role in Ghana’s transition from military rule to multiparty democracy. Over the years, the party has become a dominant political force, championing social justice, accountability, and national development.

John Mahama: "A Celebration of Vision, Sacrifice, and Hope"

Now in power following victory in the 2024 general elections, President John Dramani Mahama used the occasion to reaffirm the NDC’s mission.

“This anniversary is a celebration of the vision, sacrifice, and resilience that define the NDC,” President Mahama said. “It is also a reminder of our responsibility to lead with integrity and compassion as we work to rebuild our country and deliver hope to every Ghanaian.”

Mahama's administration has focused on economic recovery, youth empowerment, and inclusive governance, pledging to restore growth and strengthen democratic institutions.

Fifi Kwetey: "A Legacy of Service to Ghana"

NDC General Secretary Fifi Kwetey also marked the day with a powerful tribute to the party’s enduring connection with the Ghanaian people.

“For 33 years, the NDC has stood firmly by the people of Ghana. We have governed, we have served, and above all, we have defended the ideals of democracy and development,” Kwetey noted. “This milestone is a call to continue that legacy.”

Nationwide Activities and Civic Engagement

Across all 16 regions, the NDC is holding clean-up campaigns, health screenings, public lectures, and thanksgiving services. Supporters are taking to social media with the hashtag #NDCat33, sharing messages of unity, patriotism, and party pride.

From Rawlings to Mahama: A Journey of Democratic Stewardship

The NDC’s legacy is closely tied to Ghana’s democratic evolution. From Rawlings’ transition to constitutional governance, through the stabilizing leadership of the late President John Evans Atta Mills, to the transformative social programs of John Mahama, the party has played a central role in Ghana's Fourth Republic.

Today, the NDC continues to nurture a new generation of civic-minded leaders dedicated to progress, peace, and prosperity.

Looking Forward

As the party looks toward the future, it remains committed to preserving democratic gains, addressing national challenges, and building a just and inclusive society.

“Long live the NDC. Long live the Republic of Ghana.”
