Hon. Michael Okyere Baafi, Member of Parliament for New Juaben South, has dismissed claims by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) suggesting a drop in cement prices to GHS 82.

According to Hon. Baafi, no official discussions have taken place between the government and cement manufacturers regarding a reduction in cement prices. He emphasized that Ghana’s economy operates under a free market system, where prices are shaped by market dynamics, not political influence.

The recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi presents a unique opportunity for manufacturers to reduce prices and ease the burden on consumers,” he noted. “However, rather than collaborating with producers to ensure price stability, the NDC continues to propagate narratives that do not reflect the market reality.”

Hon. Baafi called on cement producers to respond to the cedi's strength by adjusting prices in favor of Ghanaians. He also urged citizens to demand transparency and accountability from all leaders, stressing that economic progress should be grounded in facts, not propaganda.

Ghana deserves truth, stability, and fair pricing,” he concluded. “Let us prioritize people over politics.”

This statement comes amidst ongoing public discussions on the cost of living and the role of political leadership in driving economic relief.
