Public Transport Fares Reduced by 15% in Ghana Effective May 24, 2025
Ghana's Road Transport Operators have announced a 15% reduction in public transport fares starting May 24, 2025, due to a drop in petroleum prices. The reduction applies to shared taxis, tro-tro, long-distance buses, and haulage services.

The Road Transport Operators of Ghana have officially announced a 15% reduction in public transport fares, effective Saturday, May 24, 2025. This decision follows the observed decrease in the prices of petroleum products, which has significantly influenced the cost of transportation operations.
In a press release signed by Mr. Godfred Abulbire, General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), and Mr. Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah, General Secretary of the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), the fare reductions apply to the following modes of transport:
-
Shared Taxis
-
Intra-City (Trotro)
-
Intercity (Long Distance)
-
Haulage
Transport operators have been urged to comply with the new fare structure and display updated fare information at their loading terminals. The general public is also encouraged to cooperate to ensure the successful implementation of the new rates.
The directive has been communicated to relevant government bodies including the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Government Communications, Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, National Petroleum Authority, press houses, and all regional coordinating directors.
This fare reduction is expected to ease the financial burden on commuters and improve public confidence in the transportation sector.
