The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that it will soon begin disbursing 20% arrears owed to its staff, with payments covering outstanding amounts from January 2025.

The decision follows formal approval by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the Ministry of Finance, with the payment already included in the NIA’s 2025 budget.

“Yesterday, the Finance Ministry, led by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, acknowledged receipt of the letter and promised to fast-track all that needs to be done,” said Williams Ampomah Emmanuel Darlas, NIA Head of Corporate Affairs, during a press briefing.
“He will forward it to the Controller and Accountant General so that staff can benefit from their 20% arrears since January.”

Key Milestone for Staff

The Finance Ministry’s green light marks a breakthrough after months of uncertainty and agitation by NIA staff. Administrative processes are reportedly in motion to ensure a swift disbursement.

“I want to assure the staff of the National Identification Authority that their 20% will be paid,” Darlas emphasized.

Morale Boost Amid Heavy Workload

The news is expected to significantly boost morale among NIA workers, who have faced tight resource constraints amid expanding national ID enrolment and verification operations.

Sources indicate that payments will likely be made in tranches, with further updates from the Controller and Accountant General’s Department anticipated soon.

NIA Reaffirms Staff Welfare Commitment

Darlas noted that the arrears payment is part of a broader effort to support NIA personnel and improve institutional performance.

“We appreciate the dedication of our staff across the country. This is part of a broader plan to recognize their hard work and improve institutional performance,” he said.

As the NIA awaits the final transfer of funds, staff members remain hopeful that the payments will arrive promptly, bringing relief after nearly six months of financial strain.
