Mob Justice in Ashanti: Two Robbery Suspects Lynched After Deadly Attack in Bosome Freho
Residents of Bosome Freho lynch two suspected robbers following the killing of a local farmer. Police urge calm as investigations continue into the deadly robbery and mob justice.

Bosome Freho District, Ghana – June 18, 2025:
Tensions have escalated in the Bosome Freho District of the Ashanti Region after angry residents of Appiahkrom and Nsokote lynched two suspected armed robbers. The vigilante response followed a violent robbery that claimed the life of local farmer Emmanuel Kwadwo Obeng, aged 50, in the early hours of Tuesday, June 17.
The deceased suspects, Richard Arhin (26) and Eric Osei (27), were alleged members of a four-man gang that attacked Maame Ama, a farming village near Nsokote, at around 2:00 a.m. The robbery turned deadly when Obeng was shot in the chest and died instantly.
Community Takes the Law Into Its Own Hands
Eyewitnesses report that community members, enraged by the killing, pursued the fleeing robbers. Two were captured and lynched on the spot, while the remaining two suspects were apprehended and handed over to police.
“The other two suspects are in police custody and will be arraigned before the court in due course,” confirmed DSP Samson Wunyi Mumuni, Fomena District Police Commander.
The bodies of the lynched suspects have been deposited at the Fomena District Hospital morgue for autopsy and identification.
Fear and Frustration in Bosome Freho
Residents say the gruesome incident reflects growing insecurity in the area.
“We are tired of living in fear. These criminals have turned our nights into nightmares,” said a resident.
While some locals defend the lynching as a response to persistent crime, security experts and rights groups have condemned the act, urging respect for due process.
Police Call for Calm
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has appealed for restraint, emphasizing the need for lawful action and cooperation with law enforcement.
“We understand the pain and fear these attacks cause, but mob justice is not the answer,” a police spokesperson said.
“We are intensifying patrols and urge residents to provide timely information.”
As investigations proceed, the tragedy has reignited national discussions about rural security gaps and the urgent need for stronger policing to protect vulnerable communities.
