NPP Accuses Mahama Government, Police of Sabotage in Ablekuma North Collation Standoff
Party alleges defiance of court order, claims government and security agencies are stalling EC's final declaration to cover NDC's defeat

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched a blistering attack on the Ghana Police Service and the Mahama-led administration, accusing them of deliberately obstructing the Electoral Commission (EC) from completing the collation of parliamentary results in the hotly contested Ablekuma North Constituency.
Following a high-stakes National Council meeting, the party issued a statement condemning what it described as a "coordinated sabotage" involving the Police, the Minister for the Interior, and the Attorney General, claiming they had defied a High Court order that mandated police protection for the EC to finalize collation from three outstanding polling stations.
■ “No Legal Restraint, Only Political Interference” — NPP
“The Electoral Commission has confirmed that there is no court process restraining them from completing the collation and declaring the results,” the statement asserted.
“Yet the Police, in clear contempt of court, are refusing to act—simply because they know the NDC has lost the seat.”
According to the NPP, this delay is a deliberate strategy by President John Mahama and the NDC to deny the people of Ablekuma North their rightful parliamentary representation.
■ Democracy at Risk?
The NPP warned that the standoff poses a grave threat to Ghana’s democracy, accusing the ruling party of weaponizing state institutions for political advantage.
“This is nothing short of state-sponsored voter suppression,” the party said. “The only reason Mahama and his NDC are not allowing the Police to provide security is because they know they have lost. This is a calculated attempt to hold the people of Ablekuma North hostage.”
■ NPP to Hit the Streets
In response to what it describes as an attack on the democratic process, the NPP announced plans to mobilize nationwide actions in the coming days.
“We wish to serve notice that we shall, in the coming days, roll out a series of actions to get the powers that be to uphold the democratic rights of the people of Ablekuma North,” the statement concluded.
Political tensions remain high as Ghanaians await the resolution of what could be a defining moment in the ongoing power struggle between the NDC and the opposition.
