NPP disowns regional chairmen’s claims, reaffirms internal democracy

The National Leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has moved to dispel recent claims made by two of its regional chairmen, stressing that their pronouncements do not reflect the official position of the party.
In a statement signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong and dated 28 September 2025, the party urged the public and stakeholders to disregard comments made by Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako and Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC. The statement said the remarks made by the two did not represent the ideals and practices of the NPP.
The leadership categorically stated that no individual, regardless of rank or influence, holds unilateral control over the compilation of polling station albums, a process that has been the subject of controversy in recent weeks. The statement emphasised that the compilation strictly follows established compliance procedures under the supervision of the National Secretariat, which will issue clear guidelines at the appropriate time to ensure integrity, credibility, and fairness.
Addressing allegations that the decision to hold the NPP’s presidential primaries on 31 January 2026 was deliberately designed to favour a particular aspirant, the party dismissed the claims as baseless. According to the leadership, the National Council made the decision after extensive deliberations, with the strategic aim of giving the party sufficient time to reorganise, reposition, and recapture power in 2028.
“The assertion is unfounded,” the statement read. “Given the calibre of the members of the National Council, no individual can manipulate or influence a decision in his or her favour.”
The party further assured polling station executives and stakeholders nationwide that any pronouncements suggesting otherwise should be “disregarded and treated with the utmost contempt they deserve.”
Reaffirming its stance, the NPP leadership pledged to uphold transparency, fairness, and internal democracy across all processes. “Leadership will continue to ensure that every stage of our electoral activities reflects the highest standards of integrity and credibility,” the statement concluded.
