NPP Flagbearership Race : Kenedy Agyapong Meets Former MMDCEs
NPP Flagbearer hopeful and former Assin Central member of Parliament, Kenedy Ohene Agyapong has met former MMDCEs to declare his intention and seek their support for the upcoming Presidential primaries of the party.

Former Assin Central member of Parliament and NPP firebrand, Kenedy Ohene Agyapong on Thursday met with former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to declare his intention to contest for the upcoming Presidential primaries of the NPP and seek their support.
Mr. Kenedy Agyapong met with 268 former MMDCEs in an attempt to convince them to believe in his candidature and get more delegates in the various constituencies for him.
His meeting comes a day after the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the National Council of the NPP met and announced an early congress to elect a flagbearer for the party in January 2026 ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Coincidentally, former Vice President and the 2024 flagbearer of the NPP also received 67 minority MPs after the MPs visited him to throw their support behind him.
According to some of the MPs who spoke to the media after the meeting with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the former Vice President stands tall and stands a better chance of leading the party to victory in the 2028 general elections.
In the last NPP Presidential primaries, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia won with over 60 percent of the total votes with Kenedy Agyapong following him closely with over 30 percent of the delegates votes.
General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Fredua announced that, the date for the presidential primaries is scheduled to take place on 31st January 2026.
Proponents of early Congress to elect a flagbearer for the NPP argues that, electing a flagbearer early will allow the party to have enough time to prosecute a good campaign rather spend time engaging in infighting.
A National Delegates Congress is expected to take place July where Congress will approve some amendments to the party's constitution and other issues.
