Over 8,000 Ghanaians Receive New Chip-Embedded Passports via Courier - Foreign Affairs Minister
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa reveals that 8,463 Ghanaians have received chip-embedded passports by courier at no extra cost since the launch of Reset Passport Reforms on April 28, 2025.

Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has announced that 8,463 Ghanaians have successfully received their new chip-embedded passports through courier delivery, without paying any additional fees.
This milestone follows the official rollout of the Reset Passport Reforms on April 28, 2025, aimed at transforming the country’s passport acquisition process to be more efficient, secure, and citizen-focused.
According to verified data from the Passport Head Office, the no-cost courier delivery service has drastically improved public access and reduced congestion at passport offices across the country.
“This is part of a broader commitment to dignity, convenience, and respect for Ghanaian citizens,” Mr. Ablakwa stated.
The new chip-embedded passports, which meet ICAO standards, include advanced security features and faster issuance timelines. The reforms also introduced 24/7 operations at the Passport Head Office, real-time application tracking, and plans for fee reductions from GHS 500 to GHS 350 (pending parliamentary approval).
This initiative is seen as a major step in modernizing Ghana’s identity and travel documentation infrastructure, with a focus on transparency, speed, and technological integration.
