President Tinubu Demands Arrests After Benue Massacre

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday expressed his profound anger and frustration over the apparent failure of security agencies to apprehend suspects responsible for the brutal attack on Yelewata community in Benue State, which tragically claimed over 200 lives.

Speaking at a town hall meeting with leaders at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi, President Tinubu directly questioned the Inspector-General of Police regarding the lack of arrests days after the incident.

Direct Challenge to Security Agencies

During the gathering, President Tinubu minced no words in his demand for accountability. "Police, I hope your team is alert and listening for any information. How come no one has been arrested yet?" Tinubu queried. He further asserted, "I expect the criminals to be taken into custody soon."

The President then assured the nation that peace would be restored and that the tragedy would be transformed into progress.

Call to Action for Defense Leadership

President Tinubu also addressed the Chief of Defense Staff, Gen Christopher Musa, and other security leaders, urging them to intensify their efforts in apprehending the perpetrators. "Christopher, I saw your comments, and I know you and Oluyede are working hard in the bush. We need to stay alert and help find those criminals," he stated, emphasizing the urgency of the situation.

Presidential Visit and Condolences

Earlier in the day, President Tinubu arrived in Benue State to offer his condolences following the devastating attack last Friday on Yelewata in Guma Local Government.

He was received at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Makurdi by high-ranking officials including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, governors from the North Central region, federal lawmakers, and ministers.

Upon his arrival, the President immediately proceeded to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital to visit and commiserate with those who sustained injuries in the horrific attack.
