Trump Confirms Secret Service Agent Tried to Sneak Wife onto Flight

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday confirmed that a Secret Service agent attempted to sneak his wife onto a military support plane that was part of the Air Force One mission to Scotland — an incident the president described as "embarrassing" for the agency.

"Wouldn’t you think it might be a little dangerous?" Trump told reporters while en route to Washington after a five-day overseas trip. “That’s a weird deal,” he added, noting he had been briefed on the situation and trusted Secret Service Director Sean M. Curran to "take care of it."

According to The Herald in Glasgow, the agent—based in Dallas—flew his wife, a member of the U.S. Air Force, to Maryland, where she received an official briefing and was escorted to Joint Base Andrews. She was scheduled to board the support aircraft accompanying Air Force One. However, officials discovered the unauthorized arrangement and removed her from the flight before takeoff.

Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi confirmed the matter is under internal investigation. “The U.S. Secret Service is conducting a personnel investigation after an employee attempted to invite his spouse — a member of the United States Air Force — aboard a mission support flight," he said. "Prior to the overseas departure, the employee was advised by supervisors that such action was prohibited, and the spouse was subsequently prevented from taking the flight.”

Guglielmi emphasized that no Secret Service protectees were aboard the support aircraft and that the incident did not compromise the security of the overseas mission.

Multiple support planes typically accompany Air Force One during international travel, carrying personnel, equipment, and logistical support necessary for presidential visits.
