220 Former MMDCEs Declare Full Support for Bawumia's 2028 Presidential Bid
A coalition of 220 former MMDCEs has officially endorsed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the 2028 elections, pledging nationwide mobilization and strategic support for his NPP leadership bid.

A coalition of 220 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) who served under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from 2017 to 2024 has declared its “strong and unshaken” support for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s bid to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
Gathered at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Monday, the group, now operating as the Forum of Former MMDCEs for Dr. Bawumia, said their endorsement extends beyond words to practical, strategic action across all 16 regions of Ghana.
“Our endorsement is not merely symbolic. It is a strategic and operational commitment,” the group stated. “We will deploy our collective experience to ensure Dr. Bawumia’s message resonates nationwide.”
Championing Continuity and Innovation
The former local government leaders praised Dr. Bawumia as a rare blend of continuity and innovation, crediting him with major digital reforms that have shaped public service in Ghana. These include:
-
The Ghana Card and digital identity systems
-
Mobile money interoperability
-
The paperless ports initiative
“These innovations have simplified governance and brought transparency to state operations,” the group noted.
They also described Dr. Bawumia as “accessible, humble, and a unifier”—qualities they say are vital for winning over the NPP base, swing voters, and the youth demographic.
Why Bawumia in 2028?
Citing 2024 electoral data, the group argued that Dr. Bawumia gives the NPP a strategic head start due to his name recognition, policy track record, and grassroots appeal. They warned against gambling with an untested candidate in 2028, saying:
“We must not lose momentum. Dr. Bawumia is best positioned to consolidate the party’s gains while introducing fresh energy.”
Grassroots Activation in Motion
To translate their support into electoral advantage, the group outlined a concrete action plan:
-
Mobilisation in all 275 constituencies
-
Community-based door-to-door campaigning
-
Countering misinformation with verified facts
-
Fundraising and logistical support for the 2026 primaries and beyond
The former MMDCEs emphasized that 95% of them have held regional or constituency-level positions within the party, giving them insight into internal dynamics and campaign machinery.
Looking Ahead to January 2026 and Beyond
As the NPP prepares for its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026, this endorsement represents one of the largest organized shows of support for Dr. Bawumia yet—signaling a consolidation of party veterans around his candidacy.
“Dr. Bawumia is not just the best choice—he is the obvious choice,” the group concluded.
