A heartbreaking road accident has claimed the life of a 7-year-old Class One pupil of Freeman Methodist Basic School in Kwesimintsim, located in the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality of Ghana’s Western Region.

The young student was knocked down and killed by a manganese haulage truck operated by Western Transport Service. The fatal incident occurred in the Kwesimintsim Sawmill area on the morning of June 3, 2025.

According to eyewitness Jonathan Ocran, the long trailer struck the child suddenly, leading to immediate fatal injuries. The community is in deep mourning, and questions are being raised about the safety of school children and heavy-duty truck operations in residential and school zones.

Local authorities are yet to issue a formal statement regarding investigations or preventive measures following the tragedy.
