Akufo-Addo’s Leadership Has Torn NPP Apart — Constitutional Lawyer Alleges
Kwaku Ansa-Asare Blames Former President for Deepening Divisions Within the Party

Constitutional lawyer Kwaku Ansa-Asare has launched a scathing critique of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, accusing him of presiding over a leadership style that has fragmented the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and jeopardized its long-term unity.
Speaking on TV3’s KeyPoints weekend political talk show, Ansa-Asare claimed that Akufo-Addo’s leadership choices have not only weakened internal cohesion but also alienated key party stakeholders, creating a power vacuum and disillusionment within the party ranks.
“The New Patriotic Party that Akufo-Addo inherited is not the same NPP today. He’s left behind a house divided,” Ansa-Asare stated.
The constitutional expert also alleged that the former president prioritized personal loyalty over competence, a move he believes fueled internal conflicts and stifled dissent.
■ Concerns Over NPP’s Electoral Future
Ansa-Asare warned that the deepening cracks within the NPP may cost the party heavily in future elections, especially as it prepares for the 2024 general elections.
“There can be no electoral success without unity and trust. And right now, the NPP is lacking both under the weight of Akufo-Addo’s legacy,” he added.
His remarks have ignited fresh conversations within Ghana’s political space, as party members and analysts assess the impact of Akufo-Addo’s two-term presidency on the future of the NPP.
