Bello Turji Has Not Surrendered – Defence Headquarters Clarifies

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has dismissed circulating reports claiming that notorious bandit leader Bello Turji has surrendered to the Nigerian military.
In a statement issued to the press, the DHQ clarified that the information is false and should be disregarded by the public. The military emphasized that Turji remains a wanted figure and continues to be a major target in ongoing counter-banditry operations in the North-West.
“We urge Nigerians to rely on verified information from credible sources. Bello Turji has not surrendered, and operations to apprehend him remain active,” the statement read.
Bello Turji, known for leading one of the most violent armed groups in Zamfara and neighboring states, has been linked to multiple cases of mass abductions, killings, and destruction of villages.
The DHQ’s response comes amid heightened speculation following unverified social media posts and local reports claiming Turji had voluntarily laid down his arms. The military says it is committed to dismantling all terrorist and bandit networks and bringing their leaders to justice.
