Between Two Countries: The Daily Struggle of Boko Haram Displaced Persons

Displaced residents of Kirawa, a border community in Borno State, have shared harrowing accounts of their daily struggle after fleeing Boko Haram’s relentless attacks.

Thousands of these victims now take refuge in nearby Cameroonian villages, crossing back into Nigeria during the day to tend to their farmlands or engage in small-scale trading before returning to Cameroon at night for safety.

The displaced families say this cross-border routine, which has lasted for years, exposes them to hunger, poor healthcare, and insecurity on both sides of the border. Many lament the absence of adequate government support and call for urgent intervention to restore peace so they can return to their ancestral homes permanently.

Local leaders warn that without security reinforcement and humanitarian aid, the plight of these victims will worsen, deepening the humanitarian crisis in the region.
