Police in the Central Region have arrested two individuals for allegedly possessing 519 parcels of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
The suspects, whose names have not yet been disclosed, were apprehended during an intelligence-led operation on Tuesday. According to police sources, the parcels were concealed in large sacks and loaded onto a vehicle, apparently destined for distribution.
The operation, carried out by the Gomoa Nyanyano District Police Command, followed weeks of surveillance and tip-offs from members of the public. Authorities say the seized items will be sent to the Ghana Standards Authority for forensic analysis to confirm the substance.
“The arrest is part of our ongoing efforts to clamp down on the trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs in the region,” a police spokesperson said. “We urge the public to continue providing information to help rid our communities of this menace.”
The suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court after investigations are concluded.
The bust adds to a growing list of recent drug-related arrests in the Central Region, highlighting the persistent challenge security agencies face in combating the narcotics trade in Ghana.
