“Doctor Is a Duty, Not a Trophy” – NIBS Alumni President Cautions Against Title Glorification
Dr. Sylvester Nyamekye Urges Doctoral Graduates to Embrace Service Over Prestige

The President of the Nobel International Business School (NIBS) Alumni Association, Dr. Sylvester Nyamekye, has issued a strong reminder to doctoral degree holders to view their academic titles as a call to service, not a symbol of superiority or personal glorification.
Speaking at a recent alumni event, Dr. Nyamekye cautioned against the growing trend of “Doctoral Title flaunting”, stressing that those who earn the title must remain grounded in humility and purpose.
“The title of ‘doctor’ is not for self-glorification,” he said. “It is a call to serve humanity, to drive innovation, and to contribute meaningfully to the development of your communities and sectors.”
■ A Plea for Purposeful Leadership
Dr. Nyamekye challenged doctoral graduates across all fields to shift their focus from accolades to action, stressing the urgent need for change-makers who will use their advanced knowledge and skills to tackle real-world problems.
“Doctoral education should empower individuals to become solution providers. Your influence must go beyond academia—into policy, business, education, and community transformation.”
■ Academic Excellence with Social Responsibility
The NIBS alumni president's message underscores the institution’s broader philosophy of transformative leadership and responsible scholarship. He reminded graduates that the highest form of recognition is impact, not applause.
His comments come at a time when the public conversation around academic credentials and titles is growing—often highlighting the need for ethical leadership, humility, and measurable contributions from the most educated in society.
