President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, July 1st, led a heartfelt Republic Day celebration at the Presidency, where he honoured Ghana’s senior citizens for their decades of service and dedication to the nation’s progress.
The event, marked by a special luncheon at Jubilee House, brought together a cross-section of Ghanaian icons—from public servants to global cultural ambassadors—to reflect on the legacy of the country’s elders and the values they have instilled in national life.
In his address, President Mahama paid glowing tribute to the resilience, sacrifice, and leadership of Ghana’s elderly, describing them as “pillars of our development journey.”
“Today is not just about marking a date on the calendar,” he said. “It is about acknowledging the invaluable contributions of those who came before us—who laid the foundation on which we continue to build this great nation.”

The luncheon was graced by top dignitaries including Vice President H.E. Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, Acting Chief Justice Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, and Chairman of the Council of State Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho.
Also in attendance were celebrated national figures such as former world featherweight boxing champion Azumah Nelson and four-time Grammy-nominated musician Rocky Dawuni, alongside many other distinguished personalities.
