Gold Fields Ghana's Menstrual Hygiene Initiative Benefits 15 Schools

The Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, in collaboration with School Health Education Programme (SHEP) coordinators, successfully organized Menstrual Hygiene Week celebrations across 15 host community schools in Tarkwa and Damang.

This impactful initiative was designed not only to educate both girls and boys on the importance of menstrual hygiene but also to foster open dialogue among students, teachers, and peer educators — dismantling stigma and misinformation.

Key Highlights of the Programme:

  • Peer-led educational sessions aimed at dispelling myths and misconceptions surrounding menstruation.
  • Practical demonstrations on the proper use of sanitary products and maintaining personal hygiene.
  • Distribution of sanitary pads to ensure adolescent girls have the resources to manage their periods safely and confidently.
  • On Menstrual Hygiene Day, media stakeholders joined activities to raise broader awareness and promote menstrual dignity.
  • Over 3,600 students participated, helping foster a more informed, inclusive, and health-conscious student body.

Leadership and Commitment

The initiative was carried out under the supervision of Mr. Abdel-Razak Yakubu, Executive Secretary of the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, who reiterated the Foundation’s long-standing commitment to promoting youth development, health education, and gender equity in its host communities.

“Empowering our youth with accurate knowledge on reproductive health and hygiene is a critical investment in the future of our communities,” Mr. Yakubu affirmed.

Gold Fields Ghana Foundation remains dedicated to championing adolescent health and holistic youth development, with special emphasis on empowering girls through education, dignity, and equal opportunity.
