Former Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, has been granted bail to the tune of GHS500,000 with two sureties following his arrest over the alleged theft of company vehicles belonging to the state-owned beverage manufacturer.

The bail was granted after Mr. Jumah appeared at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters, where he had been held in police custody after the company filed a formal complaint.

Speaking at a press briefing, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Lydia Yaako Donkor confirmed the arrest, stating that it followed a petition from GIHOC Distilleries alleging Mr. Jumah unlawfully took possession of several company vehicles after leaving office.

“We received the petition alleging that some vehicles belonging to GIHOC had been stolen by the former MD. As of this afternoon, three of the missing vehicles have been retrieved. He is assisting us with investigations,” DCOP Donkor revealed.

Sources say the retrieved vehicles are currently in police custody as further investigations continue to determine the full extent of the alleged misconduct.

Mr. Jumah, a known political figure and former Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, is yet to publicly comment on the accusations. The police have assured the public of a thorough and impartial investigation.

The case has sparked national interest, especially given the state-owned nature of the company and the prominence of the accused. The CID has promised to provide updates as the inquiry progresses.
