Ghana Rolls Out Ambitious 24-Hour Economy Initiative Today
Flagship NDC Initiative Targets Shift-Based Work in Key Sectors, with Tax Incentives and Round-the-Clock Operations

The government of Ghana will today launch its much-anticipated 24-Hour Economy Policy, marking a bold step toward transforming the country's economic framework by encouraging continuous, shift-based productivity in crucial sectors such as manufacturing, agro-processing, healthcare, transportation, and retail.
The flagship initiative—spearheaded by the National Democratic Congress (NDC)—is being promoted as a “game changer” that will boost employment, increase national output, and create new value across Ghana’s supply and service chains. Companies opting into the programme are set to enjoy tax breaks, reliable electricity supply, and improved nighttime security.
Goosie Tanoh, Presidential Advisor on the 24-Hour Economy, outlined the policy’s strategic direction, anchored on three foundational pillars: production transformation, supply chain enhancement, and human capital development. These are further supported by eight thematic sub-programmes:
● Grow24 – Agricultural modernization
● Make24 – Industrial and manufacturing support
● Connect24 – Logistics and supply chain improvement
● Aspire24 – National productivity culture
Another vital feature is the integration of digital skills into TVET systems, aimed at preparing Ghana’s youth for new job opportunities. A cultural campaign dubbed “Show Ghana” will also be rolled out to boost tourism and generate foreign income.
Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin voiced support for the initiative but urged the government to pass enabling legislation to ensure its sustainability. “Let us protect this from becoming another abandoned policy,” he said, calling on the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat to collaborate with lawmakers on a bill that institutionalizes the reform.
The July 2 launch will mark what government officials describe as the dawn of a “new economic era”—one aimed at unlocking inclusive growth, deepening employment, and transforming Ghana’s productivity landscape.
