Mahama immortalised in bloom as Singapore extends diplomatic floral tribute
“Vanda John Dramani Mahama” Joins Singapore’s Prestigious VIP Orchid Collection

President John Dramani Mahama has been honoured in Singapore with a unique floral tribute, as the National Orchid Garden unveiled a new hybrid orchid named “Vanda John Dramani Mahama” in his recognition.
The ceremony took place at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, where the Ghanaian leader toured the grounds, signed the visitors’ book, and was briefed on the garden’s rich history.
The naming of the orchid forms part of Singapore’s long-standing tradition of presenting newly bred orchids to visiting heads of state, heads of government, and other distinguished international figures. These “VIP Orchids” are more than symbols of beauty; they represent the nation’s growth, resilience, and enduring cultural heritage.
“Vanda John Dramani Mahama” now joins the ranks of orchids named after global dignitaries, reflecting Singapore’s use of horticulture as a form of soft diplomacy. The tribute underscores not only the cordial relationship between Ghana and Singapore but also the broader cultural practice of using nature to build bridges across nations.
For President Mahama, the honour cements his name within an internationally recognised tradition that blends art, diplomacy, and the symbolic power of flora. The orchid will stand as a lasting reminder of his visit and Ghana’s engagement with Singapore.
