Man Arrested in Lagos for Alleged Murder of Girlfriend in Hotel

The Lagos State Police Command has detained Amos Daniel, alias Gambit, for the suspected murder of a woman believed to be his girlfriend at a hotel in Ayobo Ipaja on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
Daniel, a known cultist, checked into the hotel around 5 pm with friends, later joined by the female victim. At approximately 10 pm, guests reported hearing unusual noises from their room. A hotel guest, Adio, recounted to Punch that the noises prompted security to investigate. Upon entering the room with a spare key, they discovered the woman’s lifeless body in a pool of blood.
Hotel staff raised the alarm, and a search of the premises led to Daniel’s capture as he attempted to flee. A staff member, speaking anonymously, revealed that Daniel was apprehended after two of his companions had already left. “He was caught trying to escape through the gate,” the source said, adding that Daniel confessed during a confrontation that he and his friends planned the killing for ritual purposes.
The victim, identified as Endurance from Akwa Ibom State, was found with multiple stab wounds. Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the incident, noting that the hotel manager reported it to Ayobo Police Station on Friday. Hundeyin stated that Daniel booked the room and checked in with friends at 5 pm. By 8 pm, the manager, while fueling the hotel’s generator, heard strange noises and discovered the victim’s body with injuries from a suspected sharp object.
Police apprehended Daniel after he dropped a dagger believed to be the murder weapon while fleeing. Detectives recovered additional items from Daniel’s residence and the premises, including a UTC axe, cutlass, machete, jack knives, a laptop, a service jungle boot, a local sponge, and a large pair of scissors. The victim’s body, which had stab wounds to the stomach, left side of the head, and upper ribs, was taken to Mainland General Hospital, Yaba, for autopsy.
The case, along with the suspect and exhibits, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for further investigation.
