Nation gathers at Black Star Square Tonight to Honour Daddy Lumba
Candlelight Vigil for Daddy Lumba: Ghana Celebrates a Legend’s Legacy

A national candlelight vigil will be held tonight, Saturday, 2nd August 2025, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at the Black Star Square in Accra to honour the memory of Ghana’s revered Highlife icon, Daddy Lumba.
The solemn event, expected to draw thousands of fans, industry colleagues, and dignitaries, is being organised under the auspices of the Creative Arts Agency as part of a broader programme to celebrate the life and musical legacy of the late legend.
In a statement issued on 26th July by the Acting Executive Secretary of the Creative Arts Agency, Gideon Aryeequaye, the Agency noted that the vigil is one of many tributes being lined up in remembrance of Daddy Lumba’s immense contribution to Ghanaian music and culture.
“Daddy Lumba’s music defined generations, inspired countless musicians, and brought joy to millions. This national candlelight vigil is a fitting symbol of the nation’s love and appreciation for a man whose artistry transcended borders,” the statement read.
Ahead of tonight’s vigil, a book of condolence was opened last Tuesday at Daddy Lumba’s radio station, DLFM (106.9 MHz), and his East Legon residence, giving the public the opportunity to express their grief and share fond memories.
Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, passed away on July 21, 2025, sending shockwaves through the entertainment industry and beyond. His death has triggered an outpouring of tributes from across the globe, with many hailing him as one of Ghana’s greatest musical exports.
The Creative Arts Agency has urged attendees to come clad in white attire and to bring candles to light in unison as a symbol of hope, unity, and eternal remembrance.
The evening’s programme will include live performances of some of Lumba’s greatest hits, poetry recitals, and a visual tribute chronicling his extraordinary career that spanned over four decades.
The vigil promises to be a powerful reflection of the deep connection between the artist and the nation that adored him.
