Ogun Police Foil Kidnap Plot, Arrest Wanted Kidnapper Clement Elijah and Gang

The Ogun State Police Command has successfully stopped a planned kidnapping in Abigi, the main town of Ogun Waterside Local Government Area, and arrested Clement Elijah, a wanted serial kidnapper who had evaded capture since 2024.

The police acted on credible intelligence and collaborated with alert residents to prevent the abduction of a well-known individual in Ago Village, Abigi.

According to Omolola Odutola, the police spokesperson, Elijah had arrived in Ibiade on June 13, 2025, plotting the crime before officers intervened.

Weapons Recovered and Gang Members Caught

During a follow-up raid on June 16, 2025, police operatives arrested Posi Friday, the suspected arms supplier to the gang. He was found in possession of a pump-action rifle, a locally made pistol, and eight live cartridges hidden in a speaker boom box.

The police also apprehended two accomplices of Elijah during the initial raid.

In a separate incident on the same day, fourteen suspected gang members were arrested across Ijagun, Ogbo, Ijele, and Imaweje. The suspects, belonging to two rival groups, were allegedly preparing for a violent clash over turf control after finishing their school exams.

Police Commend Residents and Continue Investigation

The Ogun State Police Commissioner, Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the residents of Ibiade and Abigi for their vigilance and cooperation in the fight against crime.

The suspects are being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta, as police continue efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the state.
