Ghana’s Parliament has donated GH¢100,000 to assist victims of the tragic El-Wak Sports Stadium stampede, which claimed six lives and left dozens injured during a Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise in Accra.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, presented the donation on behalf of the House during a visit to the victims receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital. He expressed sympathy on behalf of Members of Parliament and pledged Parliament’s commitment to supporting the affected families.
Bagbin described the incident as “a painful reminder of the need for stronger safety measures” during national recruitment and public gatherings. He urged state institutions to learn from the tragedy and implement better crowd-management protocols to protect citizens seeking employment opportunities.
The Speaker also commended the Ghana Armed Forces medical team and hospital staff for their swift response in treating the injured. He assured that Parliament would continue to work with relevant ministries to ensure accountability and improved safety standards for future recruitment exercises.
The donation comes amid growing public concern over how such large-scale national events are organized, as authorities investigate the exact causes of the deadly crush that occurred on November 12, 2025.
