The Ghana Police Service has arrested the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, for what it described as offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace.

In a statement issued on Monday, 8 September, the Police confirmed that Abronye was taken into custody earlier in the day and is currently being held. He is expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.

Although the statement did not provide details of the specific actions that led to his arrest, the outspoken politician has been in the spotlight in recent weeks. His detention comes shortly after he filed asylum applications in eight countries — including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, Germany, and Côte d’Ivoire — citing alleged political persecution and threats to his life.

The Police further disclosed that ongoing inquiries in connection with Abronye had extended to a search of the residence of former NPP Youth Organiser, Moses Abor, on Sunday. Abor, however, was not present during the search.

Abronye, well known for his controversial remarks and fiery political commentary, has often courted public debate. His arrest is expected to generate fresh discussions on political freedoms, accountability, and the role of security agencies in managing public order.
