The Bush Push: Ato Forson Unveils 49 Key Road Projects in 2025 Mid-Year Budget
Finance Minister Ato Forson announces “The Bush Push,” a sweeping road infrastructure initiative involving 49 projects across Ghana, including expressways, ring roads, and bridge construction.

“The Bush Push!”, Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced a comprehensive list of road construction, rehabilitation, and feasibility projects across the country during the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review.
The initiative seeks to address years of neglect in key road corridors, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas. The Finance Ministry has categorized the projects into three segments: (A) Projects with Commitment Authorizations, (B) Selected Abandoned Projects with No Prior Dedicated Funding, and (C) Projects Undergoing Feasibility Studies.
A. Projects with Commitment Authorizations Issued by the Ministry of Finance (Ongoing/Greenlit)
These projects have received financial clearance and are expected to proceed without delay. Highlights include:
-
Bridge Construction: New bridge over the Oti River at Dambai.
-
Major Regional Roads: Upgrades and rehabilitation of roads in Upper West (Wa-Han, Tumu-Hamile, Navrongo-Tumu), Bono (Techiman-Wenchi), and Volta (Asikuma-Ho corridor).
-
Urban Road Expansion: Dualization of Winneba-Mankessim and Cape Coast-Takoradi roads.
-
Ring Roads: Construction of Sunyani and Kumasi Outer Ring Roads.
-
Education and Health Access Roads: Improved routes to schools and health facilities across the country.
-
Energy & Agriculture Links: Roads like Enchi-Elubo and Sefwi Adabokrom to facilitate cocoa, timber, and mining transport.
A total of 32 projects have been committed under this category, covering nearly all 16 regions of Ghana.
B. Selected Abandoned Projects with No Prior Dedicated Funding (To Be Revived)
This category involves projects that were either started but stalled or completely abandoned due to lack of funding.
-
Ofankor–Nsawam Dual Carriageway and Kasoa–Winneba rehabilitation.
-
Suame Interchange and Takoradi–Agona Junction dualization.
-
Key Bridges over Kanyibie and Bechelihu Rivers on the Tumu–Navrongo road.
-
Adenta–Dodowa and Hohoe–Jasikan road upgrades.
A total of 13 major projects fall in this group, and the Minister pledged renewed attention and funding.
C. Projects Currently Under Feasibility Studies (Future Investments)
Strategic infrastructure requiring further technical, economic, and environmental studies:
-
Accra–Kumasi Expressway (new alignment).
-
Accra and Kumasi Outer Ring Roads to ease congestion in the capital cities.
-
Adawso–Ekye Amanfrom Bridge to connect Afram Plains, a major food basket of Ghana.
These projects lay the groundwork for long-term infrastructure transformation and could attract public-private partnerships (PPPs) and international financing.
Minister’s Outlook
“This is a Bush Push! This is our infrastructure revolution to connect people, promote trade, and stimulate inclusive growth,” said Dr. Ato Forson during his presentation in Parliament.
He emphasized that the goal is to improve access to underserved regions, decongest urban centers, and build a resilient road transport network as part of Ghana’s medium-term development strategy.
