“They Must All Go!” – Asiedu Nketia Calls for Overhaul of EC Leadership
NDC Chairman Slams Jean Mensa-Led EC as “Unfit for Purpose” Amid Series of Electoral Failures

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia has issued a resounding call for the removal of the top leadership of the Electoral Commission (EC), describing their tenure as a disaster for Ghana’s democracy.
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Wednesday, June 25, the NDC stalwart launched a blistering critique of the EC, asserting that Jean Mensa, Dr. Bossman Asare, and Samuel Tettey must all step aside for mismanaging elections and eroding public trust in the electoral process.
“There must be change. The current EC leadership has failed its basic responsibility of conducting credible elections. They are simply not fit for the job,” he charged.
Mr. Asiedu Nketia highlighted several examples, including the unresolved Ablekuma North parliamentary election, which has left the seat vacant for over six months, and the controversial disenfranchisement of the Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe (SALL) communities in the 2020 elections.
“These aren’t isolated incidents,” he said. “They reflect a disturbing trend of incompetence and negligence that has marred every election since the current team took over.”
He also referenced the chaotic Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, suggesting it further demonstrated the EC’s inability to uphold electoral integrity.
According to the NDC Chairman, what Ghana needs now is a "complete reset" of the Electoral Commission to restore credibility and public confidence in the democratic process.
“We must rebuild the EC into an institution Ghanaians can trust again. In its current state, it does more harm than good,” he concluded.
