Veep Naana Opoku-Agyemang Rallies Female MPs for Gender Equity Push at Presidency
Vice President Hosts Women Legislators, Champions Affirmative Action and Mentorship for Aspiring Female Leaders

Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on Thursday held a high-level engagement with female Members of Parliament at the Presidency, in a show of unity and shared purpose toward advancing women’s leadership and inclusive governance in Ghana.
The MPs paid a courtesy call to congratulate the Vice President, offer support, and applaud what they described as a renewed spirit of inclusive and purposeful leadership under the current administration.
■ Affirmative Action Back on the Table
A major highlight of the meeting was a strong call to enforce the Affirmative Action Law, which the MPs say is critical to boosting women’s participation in politics, leadership, and national decision-making.
In her remarks, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang thanked the legislators for their solidarity and acknowledged the progress each of them continues to make in their constituencies and on the national front.
■ Mentorship and Legacy
The Vice President stressed the need to extend opportunity and mentorship to aspiring women leaders, emphasizing that the current generation of female trailblazers must become catalysts for the next wave of leadership.
“We must lift others as we rise,” she said, “and continue to mentor and inspire those behind us.”
■ Advancing the Mahama Agenda
She concluded with a call for sustained dialogue and collaboration among women in government to help advance President John Dramani Mahama’s transformative agenda, especially in the areas of gender equity, good governance, and national development.
The meeting was hailed by many as a step toward building a stronger, more inclusive future for Ghana—with women leading the charge.
