A Ghanaian citizen, Daniel Marfo Ofori-Atta, has petitioned the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to investigate Supreme Court Justice Yonny Kulendi and businessman Richard Jakpa for alleged attempts to influence proceedings in the ongoing “Republic v. Cassiel Ato Forson & 2 Others” trial.

In a letter dated 29 September 2025 and addressed to the CID Director-General, Ofori-Atta alleged that Jakpa, one of the accused persons in the case, leveraged his family ties with Justice Kulendi to frustrate the prosecution. He further claimed that Justice Kulendi personally intervened with former Attorney-General Godfred Dame to weaken or discontinue Jakpa’s trial.

The petitioner cited court records, including 68 WhatsApp messages allegedly sent by Jakpa to the Attorney-General, and claimed that Justice Kulendi facilitated meetings at his residence to sway prosecutorial decisions. According to Ofori-Atta, such actions amount to criminal interference with justice under Ghana’s Criminal and Other Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

He attached to his petition excerpts of trial transcripts from 6, 18, 20 and 27 June 2024, along with the WhatsApp correspondence, as supporting evidence. Ofori-Atta stressed that he is willing to provide additional documents and assistance to aid the CID’s investigations.

The petition comes at a time when the high-profile case involving former Deputy Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson and two others has already attracted significant public attention, raising fresh questions about judicial integrity and prosecutorial independence.

The CID has not yet issued a public response to the petition.
